Patrick Tyneman
Portrayed by: John Wood
|
We are first introduced to Patrick Tyneman in his roll of Chairman of the Old Colonist Club. Lucien
hung an "inappropriate" painting above the bar that Patrick asked him to remove & to bring Lucien
into line.
Patrick is the self-appointed upholder of the moral standards of Ballarat. He is old-school & set in his
ways (e.g. Women are not permitted in The Club). Patrick owns the local paper - The Courier - plus a
shoe factory & an electronics store. Patrick has a lot of influence in the community & is not afraid
to use it to his advantage. He has numerous "affairs" & thinks that his position in the community
gives him immunity from criticism.
Patrick & Lucien have a deep dislike for each other - Patrick thinks that Lucien cuts too many
corners & is therefore dangerous; Lucien thinks that Patrick uses & abuses his position plus the
people working for him. Their relationship is often stormy & heated - highlighted by one event where
Lucien demonstrated on Patrick how to strangle someone.
Patrick's use of controlled anger is superb.
Patrick has 1 son - Edward. Edward has a mean streak but relies on his fathers status to protect him.
Edward follows in his fathers footsteps, but rather more shady. Patrick & Edwards relationship is
quite tumultuous & hotheaded.
Patrick is finally called out about his affairs by his wife - things will change.
Patrick is a hard man, but always thought of himself as a fair man.
Over time, he comes to appreciate Lucien - even to regard him & Jean as friends.
